The Social Network Study Sheet

The Social Network Study Guide

There are several things you should pay close attention to while watching this film:

Pay close attention to the opening hacking sequence. What is Fincher/Sorkin comparing?

When the Winklevoss twins discover Facebook, what are they really mad at?

The scene in which Zuckerberg questions Saverin about the chicken has many narrative layers. Why was it designed this way? What is the tension in the scene?

What is a hackathon?

Why did Fincher/Sorkin decide to make the crew race a different style than the rest of the movie?

What is so important about Sean Fanning’s prophetic quote: “We lived on farms, we lived in cities, and now we are going to live on the Internet”?

Who is Peter Theil?

What side is not represented in this film?

Peter Travers of Rolling Stone had some pretty blatant generalizations of Generation Y based on the last scene of the film: “A generation of users sitting in front of a glowing screen pretending not to be alone”. Thoughts?
